SONAR X2 Feature Peek: Why BREVERB SONAR Will Become Your New Go-to Reverb

I finally had the chance to record and mix a full production in SONAR X2 Producer last week and one of my favorite new features is BREVERB SONAR.  I knew it was going to be good, but I didn’t know HOW good.  I found that out immediately when I sent the lead vocal track though to a bus with BREVERB SONAR and it was instant gratification.

Check out this video to see BREVERB SONAR in action on a vocal track:

Reverb plugins to me are very important in a mix, but at the same time they have to be of a certain caliber or I would rather not use one at all.  I have been mixing for quite a long time now and one thing that I have noticed over the years is how certain reverbs sound great alone or when soloed up on a track, but then when put to work in context they just don’t sound right. There is nothing that can turn a properly recorded and mixed piece of work into a cheap sounding demo faster than a bad sounding reverb.

I am happy to report that BREVERB SONAR is absolutely top notch.  The sound quality of this plug when used in a big project (over 75+ tracks) is where I feel it excels because it doesn’t get lost or washed out.  I prefer reverbs that are inconspicuous, and that is exactly the type of effect this is.  Of course you can create dramatic effects, but when placed on an acoustic guitar or a lead vocal it just sets itself into the pocket correctly, while also giving you precise control to sculpt sounds.

Another factor that I noticed is that it has the capability to really fatten up tracks.  The tone and character of the unit is innately warm and musically pleasing, so it allows you to turn up the juice on it without it sounding too over-the-top.

One more noteworthy feature I like, which is super important for the way I mix personally, is the panning control.  Why is this so important?  If I am using a lot of reverbs in a mix I like to be able to separate them in the stereo field.  For example, I will take an acoustic guitar and pan it hard left, but then also send it through an ambient reverb that is at the exact point on the other side.  BREVERB SONAR easily allows you to control exactly where the reverb is placed because it has dual stereo sliders.

This reverb is also very diverse and the 4 algorithms are really different, so you can use it a lot in a mix and not have everything sound the same.  Add the fact that this thing drops in as a ProChannel module and I think SONAR users have a new go-to plugin that will dramatically improve any recording.
